- Mission: Our mission is to share to our community, and the world, our love for God and love for the people in our neighborhoods, for our friends and families, for the people and families that are hurting or discouraged, through sharing the joyful gosepl message of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to provide people with purpose for life and hope.
On Saturday, Feburary 29, 1992, New Hope Community Church was started. God had led our founding pastor Rudy Reed to rent a building on U.S 60 west of Olive Hill, Kentucky. The church was actually started with three people, Brother and Sister Reed and Virginia (VA) Doss. The first Sunday morning service resulted in three people being saved.
The church has changed over the past thirteen years into a energized group of believers that have found the joyful christian life.
In 1996 Ira (Speedy) Miller was voted in as pastor to replace Borther Reed who had moved to Tennesse to finish Graduate school. In 1998 Brother Miller left to pastor Grayson Church of God and Brother Cummings was put in as pastor. In 1999 Brother Reed returned to the church after Brother Cummings left.
The church has developed a care and crisis ministry, jail and nursing home ministries, counseling services, hospital outreach, youth ministries, etc. Thank God for his leading and power. God is moving in Olive Hill!

We are a Temple
Psalm 95:6-7; John 4:23-24 We learn from scripture that God is building a temple. He is building that temple out of living stones. These living stones are persons who have been drawn by the Holy Spirit into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. We learn from the Holy Scriptures that God is seeking worshipers. The temple and worshipers go together. The temple is made up in our day of the worshipers.
We are a Lamp
Matthew 5:14-16; Philippians 2:14-16 God has given us the light and made us to be the light in a dark world. We are located right in the midst of a people who dwell in darkness. I see us being the light and sharing the light in at least three segments of this community.
I see us being the light and sharing the light with the unchurched families of our community. We have to assume that the families of our community who do not regularly find a place to worship are in the darkness. We must make sure that the light of the gospel gets to every family in this city.
I see us being the light and sharing the light with the single adult community of our city. A significant percentage of the adults in our community are single. An alarming percentage of that single adult community is unchurched. If a single adult is not finding his or her way to a place of worship regularly, we have to assume that they are in the darkness. God has given us the light so we can share it with them. I see us pouring our love and energy into being and sharing the light with this city.

Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Philippians 2:14-16
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.

We are a Loaf of Bread
Luke 14:16-24 The gospel of Jesus Christ is presented under several different figures in the New Testament. One of the favorites is that of a feast. God has prepared a great banquet to which the multitudes of the earth are invited. This is the way I see our Sunday School.
Our Sunday School is the time a teacher sets the Bread of Life. The teacher has prayerfully and carefully prepared the Bread during the week. On the Lord s Day with all of the grace and skill that God can give them, they set out the Bread for those who come with hunger. As the bread is served around the table relationships are developed and fellowship is experienced.
I see our church providing this bread on many tables every Lord s Day. There will be a table for everyone. We have tables for the elderly and the young. We have tables for the able bodied and the disabled. We have tables for husbands and wives and singles. In order to make sure that there is a table for everyone, we keep setting up new tables and enlisting new workers. These new workers will be trained in the skills of putting the bread on the table and then as we set up the new tables, we will keep going out into the community, out into the highways and hedges, and we will compel them to come in. We will do so with urgency because our Lord has instructed us to go and to invite people to participate in His feast. Our Sunday School will be our bread providing activity as a church. We will do it for the hundreds and thousands of our community.
` This is why I see our church as a counseling center that focuses on our community and in turn our community will gratefully focus on us as we make a different in the lives of friends, neighbors and families.
We are a River
John 7:37-39; Matthew 25:34-40
. Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit came, there would flow through us rivers of living water. I can see the love of God flowing through us into this community in many different kinds of ministries. I can see the love of God flowing through us to form relationships with those who have no hope in this inner city. I can see the love of God flowing like a mighty river through His church, pushing out of the way the filth and the blockades and barriers to human life and to families.
We don t have to be the river, rather we are just the channel. The Spirit of God is the river. He is the only one that can change a community like this, but He needs a channel through which He can Flow. New Hope Community Church is that place.

John 7:37-39
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Matthew 25:34-40
"Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

II Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

We are an Army Camp
Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15, 19-20 This army camp is made up of Christian soldiers. From this camp individuals and groups are sent forth on missions. Some of them go for a specific mission and ministry in our state. Some of them are sent to some place in the United States. Some of them go to foreign countries. They go to give assistance and to work along side career missionaries and churches in these places. They go to share the Gospel of Christ with the unsaved, to build church buildings, to assist in special projects, to meet a need that the missionaries have uncovered in their place of service. They go in the name of the Lord and under the blessing of this congregation.
This army camp is also a place from which support goes forth. I see a prayer room which is a communications headquarters for the Kingdom of God. Messages go to heaven to the central command, day by day making heaven aware of the needs around the world. I see a prayer room that becomes strategically a part of God s global assignment for His church.
I see also from this army camp the going forth financial support to these isolated stations around the world. I see a church like the church Philippi that even though it may have needs of its own, it is mindful of the missionaries at home and around the world and supports them financially in a generous way.
I see a church that functions as a training station from which the Gospel soldiers can go forth.

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Mark 16:15, 19-20
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

We are Salt
Matthew 5:13; Matthew 22:37-40 I see a church that has begun to so embody the principles of the Kingdom of God and to practice the mandates of our risen Lord that we become a preserving influence in society. I see us being salt as we participate in the governmental processes of our city, state, and nation. I see us being salt as we participate in the commercial and industrial parts of our society. I see us wherever we are having an influence for that which is just and righteous and godly. I see us being the kind of people that God can scatter out in a society, and wherever we are scattered we become a force for goodness.
You may not be able to see what I have seen but this a vision that God has give your pastor. I have seen a temple, a lamp, tables with bread, a school, a river, an army camp, and salt. Some of you have seen the river. You probably had not put that which you had seen into this kind of figure, but you have been seeing your church as a responsible people in a dark, hurting, and fallen world.
Now the question is where do you see yourself in this vision. No one of us can do everything, but each of us can do something. All of us can be a part of the temple and must. All of us can be light and can share the light and must. Some of us need to be instructors in the school, most of us need to be instructed in the school. All of us can participate in putting the bread on the table. Some will prepare the bread and set the tables while others of us go out and bring those in who need to eat at the tables. All of us can be channels through which the river flows. We can all participate in some way in the army camp. For some of us it will be through our prayers and money, but for many of us we need to be a part of the team that goes out and all of us can be salt. I am ready to say with Isaiah of old, Here am I, Lord. Send me. Will you join me in such a commitment?

Matthew 5:13
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied: " `Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

We are a Community
I see New Hope Community as a place for people to make friends and enter a warm atmosphere of family and security. In the book of Acts we can see the church as a place where all people had things common–no little I’s or big I’s. It was a close community of people that loved God.
We are a Healing Center
Spiritually, physically and emotionally. Spiritually through active ministry of the Word through teaching and preaching with discipleship as key to retention of believers. Physically as a ministry of healing through the stripes of Jesus (Isaiah 53, Matthew 8:17, 2 Peter 2:24, etc.) Emotionally through both of the previous means as primary and with effective Christian-centered professional state licensed counseling services for our community and church. |
