"The Praise Principle"
Praising God is a normal occurrence for people that find God in their lives. Peter says, (1 Peter 2:29) "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous. light…" Believers are to offer a sacrifice of praise.(Jeremiah 33:11; Hebrews 13:15)
God’s principles are always clear and understandable. The command throughout the book of Psalms is "Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalms 100-150, etc.) David was a man after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22) He knew the secret to God’s heart -worship. We are to worship God in spirit and truth - praise (John 4:23-24) David knew how to praise God. He says,
(Psalm 34:1) "I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth."
(Psalm 119:164) "Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments."
Those that choose to consistently praise the Lord can expect to see God’s deliverance from trials. (Psalm 50:23) Strong Christians usually are strong because they study their Bibles (2 Timothy 2:14; John 17:17), pray (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23), church attendance (Hebrews 10:25), living holy (Hebrews 12:14), walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), having faith (Hebrews 11:6), praising God (Psalms 22), etc.
Time period: Israel and Judah were divided kingdoms. King Ahab ruled Israel and Jehoshaphet ruled Judah. A great Moab army came to defeat Judah and Judah rallied behind their king and a Word from God. We can learn from this Old Testament example of praise and follow a principle of God. I copied this from our church bulletin this week. Can you fill in the blanks?
A. Judah seeks _____ (2 Chronicles. 20:4)

Power in the Name
The Jews- "the people o f God" praised their God, Jehovah by calling Him differently on different occasions. The name of God is so holy at times they would not say His name for fear of offending God. His name is holy!
(Exodus 3:13) And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? Pastor’s Message: Staying on course
Christians face daily challenges to their faith. It is a normal thing to go through trials (Hebrews 11; 1 Peter 1:6-7; 4:12-13; James 1:2). The devil and his evil powers seek to destroy all that is good (John 10:10; Ephesians 6:12)
Job experienced severe trials, but he did the right things, he was living righteous, perfect, feared God, and hated evil. (Job 1:1) Even though Job lived right, he was tested to see if he would follow and continue to serve God even in poverty, sickness and loss.
The pain and grief he went through must have been enormous. And to beat it all, his wife had to tell him to curse God and die. What a joyful time that must have been. And then his, so called friends, accuse him of sin. Job had not sinned. You may be facing trials or troubles in life, but that in itself does not mean you have done anything wrong. It may mean you are being tested for a promotion.
Christians can become shipwrecked (1 Timothy 1:19) and need a strong anchor to their souls (Hebrews 6:19). Job is an example of patience in adversity (James 5:11). Job was blessed for his endurance (James 1:12)
We can all use more patience. I know at times when things don’t go just right for me I can feel that touch of impatience start to arise. I remind myself of the patience Jesus had to go through in his suffering. I remind myself of someone confined to a wheelchair and their dismay when a perfectly able person gets the last handicap parking spot. I remind myself of all the oppressed and hungry children in the world that go hungry and live in deplorable conditions every day. Patience is a reasonable quality expected from every believer (Romans 12:1)
John said it best when he points to the victory that is a right of every Christian. (John 5: 4-5) whosoever is born of God (Christian) overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. (5) Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Truths about overcoming found in the book of James:
Resist the devil with your will. (4:7)
Humble yourself (4:6, 10)
Draw close to God (4:8)
Do not speak evil or judge others (a trick of the devil) (1:21; 4:10-12)
Keep doing good no matter what. (1:22; 2:14-26)(4: 17) Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
Be patient (1:3-4; 5:7-10). This is part of the definition of love found in 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a. The world has little patient but the believer is renewed (Isaiah 40:31)
Keep a clean mouth (no cursing or blackguarding) (5:12; 3:1-12)
Confess your faults and pray the prayer of faith (5:13-18)
Get wisdom, righteousness, peace (1:5-8; 3:13-18)
Be a good listener, speak less, and keep your anger under control (1:19-20, 26)
Visit orphans and widows (1:27)
Treat everyone the same (2:1-13)
Love God and do not be friends with the world (4:1-5)
Today start a journey of victory by asking the Lord Jesus to save you (Romans 3:23; 6:23; 10:9-13; John 3:3-7, 16; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 1:5-9; Colossians 3:1-9)
